How wide do you need?

Getting in & out

The right gate comes down to what needs to get through it, and how much room you have to swing.

  • 3–4 ft

    Walk-through

    Foot traffic, push mower, wheelbarrow

  • 5 ft

    Walk-through

    Riding lawn mower, garden cart

  • 10–16 ft

    Drive gate

    Vehicles, trailers, RVs, equipment

Drawing of a double drive gate with a removable center post

★ Recommended

Double drive gate, removable center post

  • Our sturdiest drive gate: the center post carries the load for solid everyday use.
  • The post lifts out of its in-ground socket for full, unobstructed width when you need it.

Other gate options

Sized to your access

  • Drawing of a single walk-through gate

    Single walk-through

Pedestrian and mower access, sized to your equipment.

  • Drawing of a double drive (fixed post) gate

    Double drive (fixed post)

Two panels and a fixed center post, for everyday vehicle access.

  • Drawing of a rv / wide drive gate

    RV / wide drive

Extra-wide, for RVs, boats and trailers.

  • Drawing of a sliding / rolling gate

    Sliding / rolling

Rolls on a ground track, so it needs no room to swing.

  • Drawing of a cantilever sliding gate

    Cantilever sliding

Hangs from a frame, so there is no ground track to clear.

Break-away section

Access without a gate

A break-away section is a single removable line post in a vinyl fence run, not a gate. To open the fence line, you take apart the panels on either side of that post and lift the post out of its in-ground socket, clearing an opening up to 14 ft. Put it back together afterward and the fence looks untouched.

How to open it

  1. Unpin the rails on the two panels beside the removable post.

  2. Lift those two panels out of the way.

  3. Pull the removable line post up out of its socket.

  4. The span is clear, up to 14 ft. Reassemble to close it back up.

Why choose it

  • Guarantees future equipment access, with no wide gate needed

  • Smart if a pool, shed, hot tub or RV pad may come later

  • Blends in: no hinges, latches or gate sag

  • Costs less up front than a wide drive gate, and keeps the access for later

Not a quick in-and-out.

It takes real disassembly, so plan for some time and a second set of hands, and you won't do it often. If you need regular access, choose a gate instead.

What to expect

Simple, start to finish

  1. Free estimate and design

We walk the yard with you, measure, and talk through style, color, gates and access, including room for what’s next, like a shed or an RV pad. Most projects get a firm written quote right there.

Typical: A firm quote on the spot for most projects

  2. Approve and schedule

Pick your fence, sign off, and we lock in your installation window. From here, one project lead is your go-to person.

  3. Permits and utility locate

We pull any required permits and have Blue Stakes mark underground utilities. We’ll keep you posted as each step wraps up.

    Typical: About 7 days

  4. Installation

Our own crew sets the posts in concrete and hangs the panels, then comes back the next week to hang the gates once the concrete cures. We leave your yard clean.

    Typical: 1–7 days on site

  5. Final walkthrough

We walk the finished fence with you, and we aren't done until it's right.

"Atlas did a phenomenal job on our black 4 ft metal fencing! Our yard was not just a square to work with. We have different levels of cinder block retaining walls that are curved… Tyson went above and beyond to make the necessary alterations to make everything fit seamlessly and it turned out better than we could have expected!"

"Tyson was on the ball and communicated professionally and often. Every other fencing company we looked at ghosted us, or was flaky. Highly recommend!"

Gate questions

How wide should my gate be?

It comes down to what needs to get through. 3 to 4 ft for foot traffic, a push mower or a wheelbarrow; 5 ft for a riding mower or garden cart; 10 to 16 ft for vehicles, trailers, RVs and equipment. Every gate width is customizable.

Which drive gate do you recommend?

A double drive gate with a removable center post. The center post carries the load for solid everyday use, then lifts out of its in-ground socket for full, unobstructed width when you need it.

What if there is no room for a gate to swing?

Choose a sliding gate, which rolls on a ground track, or a cantilever sliding gate, which hangs from a frame so there is no ground track to clear.

What is a break-away section?

A single removable line post in a vinyl fence run. Take apart the panels on either side, lift the post out of its in-ground socket, and you have an opening up to 14 ft. Put it back together and the fence looks untouched.

Is a break-away section the same as a gate?

No. It takes real disassembly, so plan for some time and a second set of hands. It is for occasional access, like equipment for a future pool or shed. If you need regular access, choose a gate.

When do you hang the gates?

We set the posts on day one, then come back the following week to hang the gates once the concrete has cured.

How fast will I get a quote?

You get a firm written quote within 24 hours of your free on-site estimate, and for most projects before we leave.
