Pick your pattern

Every wood fence comes down to two choices: the board pattern and the top finish.

Pattern Privacy Same both sides? Lets wind through? Cost
Regular Full; small gaps can open as boards dry No, one finished side No, solid face $
Board on board Full; the overlap hides any gaps No, one finished side No, solid face $$
Shadow box Good; see-through at an angle Yes, same both sides Yes, air passes through $$

Relative pricing within wood shown $ to $$.

Cap & trim

On regular, board on board and shadow box

  • Finished, custom look
  • Cap covers board tops from rain and snow
  • Helps hold the top line straight

No cap

On board on board and shadow box

  • Clean, simple top line
  • Fewer parts

Rule of thumb: Want the most privacy? Board on board. Sharing the line with a neighbor, or catching a lot of wind? Shadow box. Want a finished, custom look? Add cap & trim.

Real wood, real upkeep. Utah’s sun and dry air will gray bare wood and open small cracks if it isn’t kept up. Stain or seal it, and plan on a fresh coat every few years.

  • How much do you want to see through it? For full privacy, choose vinyl, Fence Trac or Trex. To keep the view, choose ornamental steel or semi-privacy vinyl.

  • What look is your home and street? Match the style tag: Transitional, Classic, Modern or Traditional. We design to your HOA’s guidelines too.

  • How little upkeep do you want? Vinyl just needs a rinse. Ornamental steel, Fence Trac and Trex never need stain or paint.

Gates

Getting in & out

How wide does your gate need to be?

  • 3–4 ft

    Walk-through

    Foot traffic, push mower, wheelbarrow

  • 5 ft

    Riding lawn mower, garden cart

  • 10–16 ft

Recommended

Double drive gate with a removable center post

Our sturdiest drive gate. The center post keeps it solid day to day, then lifts out of its in-ground socket when you need the full width for a trailer or RV. We size every gate to what needs to get through.

★★★★★
"Atlas did a phenomenal job on our black 4 ft metal fencing! Our yard was not just a square to work with. We have different levels of cinder block retaining walls that are curved… Tyson went above and beyond to make the necessary alterations to make everything fit seamlessly and it turned out better than we could have expected!"
Jamie Bohn · Google review
★★★★★
"Tyson was on the ball and communicated professionally and often. Every other fencing company we looked at ghosted us, or was flaky. Highly recommend!"

You get a firm written quote within 24 hours of your free on-site estimate, and for most projects before we leave.
