Fence installation in Alpine

Local know-how

Alpine sits beneath Lone Peak, with large lots, hillside homes and neighborhoods near the trails of Lambert Park. Retaining walls and grade changes are part of many Alpine yards.

Alpine limits a fence plus retaining wall to 9 ft on the same plane, so fence type and placement matter. ornamental steel follows walls and keeps mountain views open, while a vinyl privacy fence or Trex composite privacy fence works set back from the street. Every Alpine fence needs a permit, and we handle it.

Before you pick a style, here is what Alpine allows.

Fence rules in Alpine

Know before you build

  • Every fence needs planning and zoning approval and a building permit.

  • Within 10 ft of the front property line: 3 ft for privacy fences, 4 ft for open fences.

  • Ten feet or more back from the front line, and in rear yards: up to 8 ft.

  • A fence on a retaining wall can total 9 ft on the same plane; a taller privacy fence must step back 4 ft from the wall face.

  • Corner-lot sight triangle (35 ft): 3 ft privacy, 4 ft open.

Permits

Yes, for every fence. An inspection fee of about $101 may apply to fences over 6 ft or made of concrete. Alpine has proposed changes to its fence code, so we check the current rules before we build.

What it means for your fence

A 6 ft privacy fence fits 10 ft or more back from the front line. Closer to the street, a 4 ft ornamental steel fence counts as open-style.

Narrow it down in three questions

  • How much do you want to see through it? For full privacy, choose vinyl, Fence Trac or Trex. To keep the view, choose ornamental steel or semi-privacy vinyl.

  • What look is your home and street? Match the style tag: Transitional, Classic, Modern or Traditional. We design to your HOA’s guidelines too.

  • How little upkeep do you want? Vinyl just needs a rinse. Ornamental steel, Fence Trac and Trex never need stain or paint.

"Atlas did a phenomenal job on our black 4 ft metal fencing! Our yard was not just a square to work with. We have different levels of cinder block retaining walls that are curved… Tyson went above and beyond to make the necessary alterations to make everything fit seamlessly and it turned out better than we could have expected!"

"Tyson was on the ball and communicated professionally and often. Every other fencing company we looked at ghosted us, or was flaky. Highly recommend!"
